Don't Threaten Us with a Good BBQ or a Good Time.

As ORN prepares to hit the road this fall for our Dirtroad Tour, food is always the fun part. Well, sometimes not so fun if you have some set ways about you, but also very fun if one of those set ways is BBQ and Im a BBQ kind of guy.

At every stop and every event this guy is getting a plate. Habit, and mainly, I like trying BBQ as no matter where you go, its a rub of this or a dash of that different and its always good hanging out. Being on the road now and preparing more events, we talk to a lot of folks, well, and here it is..... I have now heard, officially for the first time on tour, a "certain" phrase of words and this is something YOU WILL ALWAYS HEAR WHEN YOU TRAVEL.....
"This one place has the BEST BBQ on the planet"
We remember good BBQ, we all have a favorite spot, we all have driven a stretch to get to that favorite spot, we even know how many miles it takes to get back and forth to that spot because its a run, but gosh, its oh so worth it. Maybe its just part of who we are, I guess, but you remember that plate of smoked opulence on a small plastic or wooden table usually away from big corporate banners as its the small mom and pops that have the best smoked secrets.
I already have a set BBQ budget while Im travelling with the tour, no doubt, my BBQB. So, to hear the words that shall not be spoken, so soon, I'd usually take them with a grain of salt and a jug of sauce. However, this time, it was different. I was caught writing a name down and even two months away from the trip, Im plotting a way to try that BBQ, I take this BBQ on the road stuff- half serious.
Ive been allowed to tell you my source and the location, its been permitted. See, this stuff is like spy vs spy for the best ribs. Let's not talk sauces and spices, someone will go home from reading this with a black eye if we proceed down that path, there's no need for violence or secret recipes, nah, no need....But, let me at least tell you why this may be that one spot, and why my source is so credible.
My Source.....Mr Darryl Jones, his family, his Scooby Doo and team, they travel, like us and like a lot of the Pro Mega Trucks and other race guys, the likes of which you will see at Darryl's October 3rd for the Fastest of the Fast. And just like me, the Pro Mega trucks, and most of our readers, Darryl has a hankering for BBQ. Now mind you, a man that has traveled, something like a million miles Id wager, probably knows BBQ. He's even done a commercial talking about all the BBQ hes eaten while travelling so, when he says the following in passing, I listened. Ill quote too....
"Rich, a good fellow and his family makes the best BBQ on the planet, its so good I did a 3 minute commercial while I was in Missouri about eating BBQ in every town I visit and theirs is still undefeated, AND some of the places in Memphis I paid 35-40 bucks for platters to sample and this 3 buck sandwich still whips'em".
The Spot...."Kerleys's BBQ is the place, and Mr Denny Kerley will be racing October 3rd for he and his family don't just cook good food, they also cook rubber." In fact, Darryl continued to tells us, this family has a long line of BBQ in them and good line of racing history coming from the straight line rail types going back a few years plus, his rig is the only other rig to break 4 seconds in the 250ft Hill N Hole run, besides Scobby.

So, ok, let me get this straight im thinking to myself. You've invited us to the fastest race of the year, showed us a great family with a guy who can outrun anything and he's GOT THE BEST BBQ this side of wherever? And, you are telling this to a guy who chases the fastest and baddest around the county all the while hunting good BBQ? If this was not Mr Jones, Id have responded with a variety of different tidbits but not this time.
This time, Ive already googled the place, it's in our GPS, told the crews and now, wrote a darn blog. There are a few things in this world that go good together BBQ, racing and hanging out with new friends and family are some of those things. In fact, that's a recipe I cant wait to dig into. At the Fastest of the Fast, October 3rd, this guy is going to have a blast. We hope you get try some of Kerley's BBQ if you can, or at least watch his family tradition do more than smoke good eats.
And finally, If you see us on the road this year BE WARNED, do not threaten us with a good time and do not threaten us with good BBQ. You will be taken up on those threats and we'd happily sit a spell.
FYI. My local fav or my home town haunts....... Ron's BBQ in Hudson, FL and Hungry Harry's BBQ in Land O' Lakes, FL. Drop a line in the comments or share and tag a BBQ place we should know about. mmmmmmmmmmmmm bbq.
