Truck Wars is our favorite stop in South Florida. The venue, The Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, its the best, heck, when you are there, South Florida is the last place you actually feel you are until you leave the parking lot. ORN is heading back for another round of tugs and this time, burnout contests.

Another reason we like this event so much, the venue makes it a perfect place for the whole family. Its safe for the kids, right in the middle of town and it makes for fun for the whole family.

Now those looking to keep the rev limiter in the garage, Cowboy's Saloon is the spot to go afterwards. Its one of the best nightlife spots in town for a reason, and its right down the road after Truck Wars's smoke clears.

NOW...... read what we published about Truck Wars in a previous issue. We'll back back for another round of tugs and rubber burning, tire popping, pulse pounding excitement from one of the state's longest running promoters.

Previous Truck Wars Article.

In the fight for events in the state of Florida, offroad and truck events, the line ups are stacked. Venues are everywhere and it makes it tough on the people going to them and the people hosting them. Those three things, the venue, the crowds and the promoters are what we are going to talk about here. Its what makes the events, period. Its not about the money. It really isn't. You have to have that one key factor, fun, or nobody wins. That's the true bottom line, not the greenbacks, the fun.

Trucks Wars, believe it or not has that. Sometimes though it doesn't all come together and there is bad blood or misdeeds or folks not following through with their commitments and promises to the crowds, drivers or promoters even. No matter where you go that may happen, and it takes the fun out of things. When the fun stops, the venues die, crowds quit showing and promoters quit promoting. When it does all come together, gosh, everyone wins, we really do. So, lets talk about the good. The good in the venue, the good in the crowd and the good in promoters, for it takes it all to host an event we all want to go to.

At the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds, Truck Wars is a perfect fit. The venue is in the very heart of South Florida. The true South Florida, not the new high rise South Florida and this venue's roots are strong. The Namesake, The Bergeron family, has long roots down there and they still hold close to them here. Heck, Mr. Ron Bergeron is still one of the last champions of the Everglades when everyone else has sold it out except for a few other Floridians and Indian tribes. Every time I'm down that way I think of that family, I've been in Florida too long and I care deeply about it so, I crack a smile when I show up at this venue. For Truck Wars, its very fitting for the venue; great stands, protection and hosting ability. Whole families can come to this event, the teenage guys and gals too, or anyone looking for dirty truck fun, which is a mainstay down there trust me, you wouldn't know it but it is. The venue knows this as well and they have fun with it, you can tell. And that's what a makes a venue. Not the location, not the money they dump into it, but its heart. This place has it and it makes stuff like this, fun.

We talked about the venue, now lets talk about the crowd. Remember its all about the fun, and almost every last person I saw had that twinkle in their eye. Seriously, the kids in tow with their parents, the parents, the teenagers, the drivers and announcers, everyone. That twinkle is what we need, if you dont have it, things dont shine, the lights aren't as bright and the engine roars are dull. This event wasn't packed, but there was the twinkle in attendance. The crowds brought their mega trucks, their new Dodges and everyday Fords and they waited at the back gate trying to get a chance to get their truck on the slab. Not really to show off, or to compete but to have FUN. Simply Fun. We missed a few folks trying to get in and were sorry, we really are for I saw that kid inside just itching to have fun. I emceed the event with some help from the Truck Wars team and telling people I couldn't get them on the slab hurt. I saw that twinkle, their girls riding shotgun had that twinkle too. That's what makes crowds. There wasnt any drama, fists flying or teenage shenanigans, you dont have to be a teenager for that, trust me. But, in the end, it was a good crowd. You hear that saying often, but it takes that twinkle for it to happen. Remember that the next time you go out.

Wow, venues and crowds thats normally enough but its important to hit on the promoters. Not everyone can put on a show or coordinate an event, you have to be in it for more than the money, you do. I saw that at Truck Wars. One of the promoters has actually really contributed to the Mud industry at lot more than you all know. I saw him wear a badge of honor at this little event, it was just a t-shirt, a plain old t-shirt of a badge from an event older than most of the kids that showed up that night, and I know that old t-shirt meant a lot to him. The events mean more than money too, for the most part, as its just what he does, he wants to contribute, he wants to be a part of the fabric of what we are, what the Offroad Nation is and I saw that side of him. He let us have fun, he let more than the show trucks come play, and he allowed a finale you dont see at most truck tug-o-wars or other events because promoters arent sometimes really aligned with whats going on. He was. It showed and again, we had fun.

I write all this not to tell you how great Truck Wars was, but hoping other venues, other crowds and other promoters pull together, treat each other right and allow all of us to have fun. I think its super important we ALL remember that. When the fun dies, we all die and Im not going out without a fight.

We will be back at the Bergeron Rodeo Grounds come June 20th. There will be mega truck classes, 3/4 ton and 1 ton classes, plus dually and outlaw classes if we get enough to come out. Its a really good place for some really good fun if we can all come together for it. Im looking forward to it and hopefully we can all meet up again where the pavement ends. Have fun.
