Vermonster4x4's 10th Annual Extravaganza. Offroad Nation, ORN, has made it back up North for the legendary Spring Vermonster4x4 event but its also the legendary 10th anniversary event. It is kind of a thing actually, and you don’t get THAT legendary overnight, this is 10 years of mega truck field experience in the books!

Why is it so legendary? Well, Randy Oakley, owner of Vermonster4x4 puts on some of the craziest events in the Wicked North and is always stepping up the Mud Game to the next level. Not only does Randy run a Vermonster4x4 event twice a year but he also runs and coordinates the Snow Bogs and helps under the hood with other top events in Vermont, New York, and New Hampshire. He's always the guy behind the scenes that does so much for the industry and motorsports in general but, you may never have heard of him. In a sense he likes that, his events speak of enough for all of us/

Randy's legendary Vermonster4x4 event is hosted once in the spring and again in the fall. The best way to describe what a Vermonster4x4 event is quite simple....Mix all the possible events a Mega Truck could be a part of, add some Monster Truck and Tractor Pull trucks, throngs of revved up fans you lose track counting and wad all that excitement into a two day extravaganza and that's Vermonster. Yes, you read that correct. It was professionally tuned and organised insanity that revved into an awesomeness overload.

The set up was unreal, all taking place in the small town Rutland, Vermont. Mostly known as Ski town, or a small college town, who would have guessed that this small town would have such an awesome state fairgrounds with huge covered grandstands perfect for accommodating the audience this new genre of motorsports draws today. This was the first time Randy ever held an event in this location but the town seemed extremely welcoming when we stopped in a gas station to fill up the rental and snag a snack. The clerk saw us wearing our new ORN Swag and asked, " Are you all going to the event?" "Of course and are you?" we asked. Without hesitation and as if it really was the hottest ticket in the STATE, she replied, "I wouldn’t miss it for the world, the whole town is talking about it."

Without fail, the clerks observations were true and when those motors were started, we were running around like proverbial chickens with their heads cut off trying to make sure we captured all the activities. We mentioned it had everything a Mega truck could do and this event had over 12 different style races from Head-2-Head Mud Drags, Hill-n-Hole, Obstacle Course, and Mega/Monster Truck Freestyles to name a few. Aside from the racing at this event there was also Helicopter rides and Monster truck rides, even the kids got a chance to show their skills racing in the Power Wheels Race. This is a family fueled horsepower extravaganza.

We don’t know if it was the sound of the crowd cheering these drivers on or the fact that ORN was there with our cameras but whatever it was, these guys weren’t holding anything back especially in the head-2-head mud drags. I hate the phrase “petal to the metal,” but that’s the best way to describe these guys. All of them, All out, NO LIFTING!! On multiple occasions, runs were made so hard everyone watching saw the effort pour out of these drivers. With that intensity, there was a close call or two, but it remained a very safe intensity for the weekend. Well, almost ..... The deep mud competition also known as “The Trench,” took a victim.

Dan Dubois, driver of the Alcohaulin Mega Truck, came in a little "hot" over the first hill in the Trench which caused him to nose dive then flip over, eventually landing land on his roof. He climbed out of this truck on his own, not much of scratch and he was clearly able, AND WILLING to pose for a shot on the top of his truck- well, I guess it was the top at that moment. Dan is all about the safety and therefor has all the safety equipment you can think of is in his truck, that’s one of the reasons he is able to walk away from some serious crashes like this. One good thing that came out of him being such a daredevil is the fact that he made this issue's cover! We like safety, but then giving it whatever you can when its time to get it, so he gets the cover.

If you missed out on this legendary, 10th anniversary event, don’t fear, you will have a chance to experience it again during the fall event September 26th-27th in Rutland, Vermont again. From what we hear, it’s going to be the best one yet with a completely new challenge for all the Mega trucks. So if you’re near Vermont or even if your thousands of miles away it’s going to be worth the trip to for Vermonster4x4 to take in the next chapter of its history. We hope to see you there!
